This year, a whopping 1,200 grandparent-baby pairs participated in Baby Singapore 2009, one of the many activities organised by the People’s Association's (PA) Family Life Section to strengthen family ties. The winners from the 12 participating Community Clubs (CCs) are now vying for the grand prize of $600.

“Tara’s such a happy baby – and that in itself is very rewarding for me,” she says.

Says Geok Heoh: “I’ll never forget when Brigton called me ‘nainai’ (Chinese for grandma) for the first time – even before he addressed his parents!”

“Ian loves it when we go for walks in the park” he says. “So I try to take him there as often as I can.”

| This preschool English teacher believes in being very hands-on with her 19-month-old granddaughter, Asheqa J. Dhalani.
She says: “My fondest memory is of the time when Asheqa looked into my eyes with her innocent, sparkling ones and called me ‘nani’ (Hindi for grandma) for the first time.”

Every week, Grandma visits 17-month-old Harshini Ravishankar without failing to watch their favourite cartoons together. “I love watching cartoons with my granddaughter,” she says.
“Her laughter just lights me up from the inside.”
