Hot Preschools

Little Kayla Ong doesn’t know it, but she’s the envy of over 200 parents.

She has a confirmed place in the popular St James’ Church Kindergarten at Harding Road in 2011, when she turns three. Her mother Eileen Wee enrolled her when she was just three months old.
Kiasu, you say? Think of it as good planning, others would argue.

“We’ve heard that places fill up very quickly and registration is first-come-first-served,” says Eileen, 32, a public relations director.

“I guess we’re lucky that Kayla is a January baby. Those who’re born in December in the same year might be on the waiting list now even if the parents acted fast.”

She’s right – all 210 places for Kayla’s pre-nursery class were quickly snapped up. In fact, there are another 229 children in the queue for her level alone, hoping that someone will drop out before the class starts – in another two years’ time.

Read the October 2009 issue of Young Parents to learn why some parents are sending their kids to a “hot” preschool. And, should you?
