The First 24 Hours In Baby's Life

Baby’s out, congratulations! Now what? Learn what happens to you and your baby just after he’s born.

As an expectant mother, you are given an expected date of delivery. That allows you to do a rough countdown to the day when you will be holding your new bundle of joy in your arms. Each visit to your gynae prepares you even more for this special day.

Then that day comes and you find yourself in the delivery suite, and after X hours of labour, a beautiful little creature is laid on you.

And then what? You’ve attended the pre-natal yoga classes and antenatal classes, had your massages, learnt breathing techniques in preparation for the birth of your child, but what happens after that?

To get an insight into what happens to both mother and baby in the first 24 hours after birth, YP speaks to two doctors – Dr Henry Cheng, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist from The Women’s Specialist Centre, and Dr Mark Loh, a paediatric specialist with the International Medical Clinic.
