Should You Eat For Two?
Confused about what to eat, what not to eat and how much to eat in order to provide the best for your growing unborn baby?
“There is no magic formula for pregnancy nutrition,” Pauline Chan, a dietitian and managing director of The Nutrition Place tells YP. “During pregnancy, the basic idea of healthy eating remains the same. This means having plenty of green leafy vegetables for folate and iron, lean meat for protein and iron, milk and dairy for calcium and protein, and many more.”
Depending on her activity level, a pregnant woman needs an additional 200 to 285 calories a day as recommended by the Health Promotion Board, she adds. To put things in perspective, you do not need to gorge and eat for two.
Here, Pauline suggests some nourishing palate-pleasers that are great for you and your baby, trimester-by-trimester. Next month, find out how expectant mothers can eat well from a TCM perspective.
