Question: My seven-month-old baby is ready to wean before I am! I would like to continue to nurse her for as long as I can. What can I do?

Answer: Self-weaning at this age is usually unlikely. It may be a temporary breast refusal situation. Continue to offer your baby as and when she is hungry but avoid forcing. Sometimes lots of cuddling, skin-to-skin contact and co-sleeping can help to win your baby back to the breast. Meanwhile, express your breast milk regularly to maintain your milk supply as it may take a while before your baby decides to continue nursing at your breast. Should your baby decide to wean, you can still continue to provide her with your breast milk by expressing regularly.
