Young Parents Team
I’d like my kid to spend more time outdoors instead of being stuck to his tablet. What can I do?
We ask Egeria Teo, centre director for Odyssey The Global Preschool.
To prevent children from being stuck to a digital gadget, don’t give them one in the first place. But if your child already has one, fret not. It’s reversible.
Start doing more fun activities as a family – go to the beach, pick up a hobby together like playing Frisbee, gardening (even if it’s on a small patch in the balcony). It does not matter what you do, as long as you’re doing it together as a family. I’m sure your child would prefer you over a gadget.
If you feel strongly about wanting Junior to spend more time outdoors, stick to it. Do not give in when he pesters you for the tablet. You can allow technology to take over your role as parent, or you can learn to roller blade together.
It’s your choice.
