How does dance help my shy child?
We ask Gladys Tay, principal of Shawn & Gladys Dance Academy.
A kid is never a complete introvert or extrovert and shyness is an indication of a need for a platform to build her confidence. Dancing can be this platform.
When learning new dance steps, the sequences and figures boost motor coordination and cognitive stimulation through memory training and spatial awareness.
This fun and engaging process of learning can give her a sense of achievement – an important building block in the development of confidence.
Group classes at our school, for instance, promote interaction among the children through exciting group dance choreographies to the latest hits in music. The interactive and active learning will definitely give her opportunities to acquire better teamwork skills, while making new friends.
