If you have a child in infant care or preschool, you will be familiar with Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD).
This common childhood disease is prevalent among preschoolers. Because Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease is so highly contagious, you will see cases spiking during certain months of the year as various preschools and child care centres report cases.
In 2016, in fact, there were so many cases in the month of May that one medical expert said Singapore was on the cusp of an HFMD epidemic. The situation was made worse by parents who continued to send their sick kids to child care.
And it isn’t just the kids who suffer. Parents who need to keep their children away from school while they are still contagious, have to scramble to find alternative child care arrangements and figure out how to occupy their kids who may become bored staying at home for an extended period.
In our new video series on kids’ health below, we gathered expert advice on Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease so you can better understand the symptoms and treatment.
