What are the school holidays for 2020? Parents in Singapore anxiously look out for the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) annual announcement so they can plan their family vacations.
MOE said on Aug 13 that the school term for primary and secondary schools will start on Jan 2, 2020 and end on Nov 20, 2020.
According to a report in The Straits Times, students starting their first year of junior college (JC) or Millennia Institute (MI), school will start on Feb 5 as the O-level results are released in mid-January.
Second-year JC and MI students begin school on Jan 6.
As always, there will be four school holiday periods for schools, JCs and MI.
Plenty of long weekends too
In addition to the school holidays in 2020, there will be a total of 11 public holidays and three additional scheduled school holidays, namely Youth Day (July 5), Teacher’s Day (Sept 4) and Children’s Day (Oct 9).
Next year also has a bumper crop of seven long weekends! (Here’s how to stretch them to nine long weekends)
As Youth Day falls on a Sunday, the following Monday (July 6) will be the scheduled school holiday.
This information is also listed on MOE’s webpage.
Here’s the list of school holidays you need to take note of.
Singapore families can also take advantage of PSLE marking week, when there’s no school for primary school kids. The 2020 dates have not been released, but in 2019 the marking week stretched from Oct 14 to 17.
