Sewing machine (optional)
1. With T-shirt flat on the table, cut off the sleeves. Remove the collar and cut the shirt a deeper neckline. The deeper the scoop you cut, the larger your bag opening will be.
2. Decide how deep you want your bag to be. Using tailor’s chalk, draw a line across the bottom of the shirt to mark the bottom of your bag. Be sure you have at least 10cm of fabric below that line.
3. From the bottom of the shirt up to the line that you just drew, cut slits about 2½cm apart. Do cut both layers of the shirt together, so that the fringe on the front and back are paired and line up evenly.
4. Knot each pair of fringe together to close the bottom of the bag. Then tie the knots tightly so they can support the weight of your bag’s contents.
