You probably know Audrey Tan as @audt on Instagram, where she posts perfect photos of her life with her two little girls (and a third child on the way).
Besides being a blogger and influencer, she also owns several businesses, including Mulberry Learning, a preschool chain.
In a 2017 interview with Young Parents, Audrey spoke about bringing in the Churro 101 franchisee to Singapore in 2015. She turned to her “best friend” for advice on how to start a business here – Google.
“There is just so much useful information online that mums who are starting a business can tap into. For example, did you know that the National Environment Agency website has a step-by-step guide on how to apply for a food shop license?” she shared.
Audrey learnt to handle her staff’s payroll, manage a multi-chain business and even create the artwork for the shops’ menus from scratch.
Alongside raising her two girls, Audrey still finds the time to blog – a hobby that she refuses to give up despite her busy schedule.
But don’t think that her Instagram posts represent her life.
Last year, when celebrities and influencers posted their PSLE grades to show that they were not their T-scores, Audrey shared how she didn’t do well for the PSLE (scroll down for her post).
After secondary school, she even dropped out of 7 tertiary institutions before she finally graduated with a diploma, she wrote.
“To be honest this is something I’ve been embarrassed about for a long time because of social pressure. I constantly felt like I was the black sheep of the family”, she added.
Audrey credits her mum for always believing in her, and telling her that she would learn from every course, even if she didn’t graduate.
“Today the different skills I learnt from the different courses I took back then really became useful for the different businesses I’m in, one of which is this preschool that I co-own that strongly encourages learning through play 😊”
Be inspired by her journey and make your own mumpreneur dreams come true, too!

Sharing a little something that’s close to my heart today ❤️ The day I received my PSLE score I went home and cried my heart out 😌 . I felt really lousy because my score was one of the lowest amongst my friends and it also meant I had trouble getting back into the sec school that was affiliated to my pri school (Things did work out in the end though, and I got back in😁) . . After secondary school, I went on to drop out of 7 tertiary schools before I finally graduated with a diploma. To be honest this is something I’ve been embarrassed about for a long time because of social pressure. I constantly felt like I was the black sheep of the family 🙈 . . Looking back, I’m really thankful to have a mother who truly believed in #lifebeyondgrades ❤️ She told me that as long as I tried my best it’s okay, and that it won’t matter so much when I grew up ✨ She also believed that with every school that I go to, I would learn something that would be useful for my future, and she was right. Today the different skills I learnt from the different courses I took back then really became useful for the different businesses I’m in, one of which is this preschool that I co-own that strongly encourages learning through play 😊 That being said, I do know that I’m still only at the beginning and there’s so much more for me to learn ✨ . Society can be cruel to those who are a little different. I’ve faced being stereotyped for so long it doesn’t really even bother me anymore 😌 . Here I am sharing this today in hopes that parents out there can come together to create a kinder more loving environment for children who are a little different, to embrace each child’s unique strengths ❤️ Grades do matter, but it should not be everything. Learning is a lifelong process and there’s so much more to it than just your psle score 🌺 . . Would love to hear of your #lifebeyondgrades story ☺️ Remember to hashtag your stories so we can all read and be encouraged by it too! ❤️ . . . Thank you @lifebeyondgrades @tjinlee @eleventhour @aarikalee @dercong @dollywolly88 for pioneering this meaningful campaign! ✨ . . . 📷: @hyydnn
