Immersive, innovative, and interactive, IMAGINIQUE, the very first Singapore Children’s Festival, features award-winning non-verbal performances sure to excite the young to the very young!
Inspired by renowned children’s festivals around the world – such as the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival, Brisbane’s Out of the Box Festival, and Okinawa’s Ricca Ricca Festival – IMAGINIQUE promises to engage children eight years and under in a variety of live non-verbal performances.
Kicking off the inaugural Singapore Children’s Festival are three live performances and one workshop that will make up the core programme of IMAGINIQUE. If you’ve always wanted to expose your child to the arts, this is an opportunity like none other!
There’s Toddler’s Room, a mini-dance theatre piece for babies and toddlers, created by Norwegian choreographer Siri Dybwik. Set inside a calming white dome, all participants will be a part of a play without words where gorgeous sculptural objects, sounds, and beautiful costumes are the stimulus for a truly magical experience.
And then there’s Loo, a production from Spain that tells the story of a hot dry wind that moves sand dunes and dries up wetlands.
If your children really love getting hands-on, Here I Am – Self Portrait would be perfect for them! A visual workshop which encourages children to express themselves through watercolour, Here I Am – Self Portrait provides participants with a platform to showcase their work which will be digitised, and hung up at the end of the 45-minute event.
And last but not least, And last but not least, you’ll want to catch Air Play from New York, an extraordinary performance which combines circus and street theatre performance art to tell a story about two siblings travelling through a world where ordinary objects turn into magical things.
To be staged at the Esplanade Theatre from December 17 to 22, Air Play will be a feast for the senses, what with confetti, flying umbrellas, larger-than-life balloons, giant kites, and the biggest snow globe you’ve ever seen. Be prepared to gasp and laugh until it hurts!
