How can you wean your little one off night feeds?
“Parents often contact me because their baby is waking up at night for a milk feed,” says Tizzie Hall, the author of the Save Our Sleep series.
“When I look at their bedtime ritual for the last 15 minutes before Baby’s sleep, I find that they’re feeding Baby his bottle or breastfeeding too close to when he’s put to bed.”
This causes him to become heavy-eyed and fall asleep while sucking, she explains.
In turn, he needs to have this same sucking in order to move from one sleep cycle to the next during the night.
When parents change their baby’s bedtime ritual so that he finishes this milk feed 15 minutes before bed, the problem disappears.
“So I suggest you change your baby’s bedtime ritual to be sure he’s going to bed fully awake. You should see this night waking disappear,” she adds.
