The Learning Lab doesn’t just equip our children with academic knowledge, it also develops the skills they need to handle challenges in life. So when it comes to managing tests in school or in life, they will always find a path to success.
There’s no denying that academic tests help us to measure our children’s progress and are important as a gauge of their development. But at this young age, we should also empower our kids to see that life isn’t just about test scores.
What’s more important is helping them to manage the everyday tests they face and to make choices that will shape their characters.
Looking beyond academic success
As Singapore’s leading provider of tuition and enrichment services, The Learning Lab challenges us to look beyond just exams.
Let us focus instead on the bigger tests our children face in life – such as failure, a lack of self-esteem and stage fright. Tests that are often overlooked in the relentless pursuit of academic success.
The fact is, they’re bound to experience challenges academic or otherwise in the years ahead.
But if they are confident, resilient and self-aware, they can push past their fears, and learn from their failures. This makes them better equipped to deal with the challenges of life successfully.
To get the conversation started with your kids, watch The Learning Lab’s touching new video, Tests, together. Then, talk to them about what it means to truly learn. You might be surprised at their answers; use the opportunity to reflect on the values you want them to have.
Programmes that prepare your child for life’s tests
The Learning Lab offers preschool, primary, secondary and junior college, programmes in English, Mathematics and the Sciences.
Their Early Years programmes employ a range of interactive activities and materials to help pre-schoolers build literacy, numeracy and communication skills, along with classroom habits and positive attitudes towards learning.
They aim to help our little ones develop a love of learning and teach him or her to grasp and organise new knowledge.
The lower primary programmes help students deepen a love for learning while building a strong academic foundation, encouraging independence in learning, and helping them meet key subject-specific milestones.
The upper primary programmes are designed to help students grow in confidence to manage academic tasks by honing subject-specific and component-specific skills and developing their critical thinking skills to manage school exams and classwork.
Most importantly, The Learning Lab’s dedication to helping our children develop the right attitudes and traits is key to overcoming life’s challenges. In particular, they encourage deeper learning, inculcate the right values in our kids and make learning relevant to their experiences outside the classroom, so that they can have a better understanding of the world.
In addition to the wide range of programmes, The Learning Lab offers various opportunities for students to participate in activities that extend beyond academic subjects.
This year, for example, they sent a delegation of students to the Harvard Model Congress, where students assumed the role of policy-makers to debate on global issues.
