Give your child the gift of a rich and rewarding music education. Home-grown company Cristofori Music School makes this possible for families of all backgrounds.
Learning music benefits children in a number of ways. Research has shown that kids who receive formal musical training or spend time in a musically rich environment tend to do better academically, are better able to express themselves and have greater spatial-temporal skills.
But if you think that giving your child a proper music education is beyond your financial means, think again. Home-grown company Cristofori Music School makes learning an instrument accessible to everyone.
Founded in 1980, and named after the inventor of the piano, Cristofori Bartolomeo, the company started as a piano technological centre and retailer of Cristofori pianos. Later, the founder opened a music school offering piano lessons. He had grown up in a family that could not afford a piano, and his goal with Cristofori was to make sure that all families in Singapore would be able to give their kids a music education.
Today, Cristofori is Singapore’s largest music company with over 35 music centers, 400 music teachers and 16,000 students. It is also established in Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, China and Thailand.
When it comes to teaching music, Cristofori focuses on three aspects: academic skills, learning skills and the awareness of the learning process itself. Children learn how to listen, learn and organise the knowledge, developing their analytical, concentration and abstract thinking skills along the way.
All this is achieved in specific ways. First, every student undergoes examinations throughout the year – this gives them the academic qualifications they need. Second, to help build their inner confidence, the students are given recital opportunities, free of charge, throughout the year, regardless of their age or grade. And finally, for a small fee, the students can take part in music competitions – this builds their experience and is a chance for them to challenge themselves.
The school conducts individual and group music lessons for students aged five years and older. Your little one can learn how to play various musical instruments including the piano, violin, guitar, drums, ukulele and cajon. Choose from classic and contemporary music courses.
Music courses for very young learners
But younger kids haven’t been left out. Cristofori also offers music courses for children aged 20 months to six years. The Preschool Music Academia (PMA) uses famous music methodologies as suggested by the Ministry of Education, including the Kodaly, Orff, Dalcroze and Suzuki Methods.
The PMA consists of four levels and is dedicated to the exploration of music through all aspects: Singing, playing, moving, listening and creating. The course gives them a strong musical foundation, nurtures a passion for music and trains them to learn music on their own. Children who complete the PMA are evaluated and receive a certificate from the UK Examination Board – London College of Music and Performance Arts Awards.
